Why NuVox NuVox Solutions About NuVox Dealers

Our VoIP Technology

Being an earlier adopter of VoIP technology, NuVox has taken advantage of this experience to build and maintain one of the most reliable and state-of-the-art networks in the industry. Employing a best-of-breed strategy, NuVox has integrated the leading hardware and software providers to establish a feature-rich and scalable platform that will serve as a solid foundation as our products and features expand.

Softswitch and Media Gateway Platform
The core of this Next-Gen network is built on a softswitch and media gateway platform provided by Sonus Networks that carries over 150 million minutes of traffic monthly across the NuVox network and billions worldwide. Consisting of a distributed system of quad-redundant policy servers (PSX’s), incredibly dense media gateways (GSX’s), and signaling gateways (SGXs), the Sonus solution allows NuVox to fully leverage its robust IP/MPLS network to provide interconnection to the rest of the world.

Session Border Technology
Protecting the core of our network and our VoIP customers is of the utmost importance. To this end, NuVox has deployed Session Border Controller technology from Acme Packet. Acting as a B2BUA (Back-to-Back-User-Agent), these devices perform layer 3 and layer 5 topology hiding, DoS/DDoS and rogue media attack protection, Hosted NAT traversal services, and individual-call QoS assurance.

Advanced Features
The enhanced features for NuVox’s VoxIP product are provided by the Synergy Platform from Sylantro Systems, a de facto market leader in Next-Gen VoIP and multimedia applications. Media and unified messaging functions including voicemail are provided by the Merion Application suite from IP Unity, including a robust media server with industry leading hardware-based DSP resources.

The Architecture: SIP and IMS
The cornerstone of the architecture is the principle that everything is build on open IETF and 3GPP standards such as SIP (Session Initiation Protocol, RFC 3261) and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). This allows NuVox to ensure that products will continue to develop with the industry and NuVox customers will have access to the latest features sets and functionality available. In addition, our development and back-office systems utilize open standards and a SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) from BEA, et al., that allow for a short cycle between concept and deployment of new functionality.
